My previous cordless handheld was a Dirt Devil Extreme Power. The Hoover BH50030 has an 18V motor versus the 15.6V motor of the Dirt Devil, which suggests possibly 15% more power. It does seem to have more suction, but the difference isn't night and day. The powered brush roller, however, often makes all the difference. I'm amazed at how effective it is for cleaning the carpet mats in my car. I previously used a powerful corded vacuum for that, but the Hoover cordless does the job effortlessly and much more conveniently. Even better, I can put the vacuum in the trunk and do the job anywhere. The only inconvenience is that it's a bit bulkier than my previous cordless, though it's still relatively light.
This product easily costs twice as much as other cordless vacuums with comparable specifications, but you do get something for your money. The quality of the product seems excellent, the filtration and dirt collection system is much more sophisticated than most products, and you get some nice attachments (especially the powered brush roller!). The quality also comes through in how quiet this vacuum is, especially compared to the typical Dirt Devil scream machine. I can even use it in the apartment at night without worrying so much about disturbing sleeping neighbors. Finally, with the removable battery pack and external charging system, the lifespan of the product isn't limited by the battery. One can only hope that the battery lasts a long time though, because it costs as much as competing vacuum cleaners.
I feel I have to deduct a star for value because of the cost of the product and replacement batteries, but I still really like the Hoover for how well it works and its overall top-of-the-line quality.

needs a solid wall dock recharger, given all ells then $116 would be fine,I'd buy right now --it disgusts me, but as it is I will hold out, hold my nose, and buy a cheep throw away wall mount for now. I have limited mobility and convenient availability is paramount.

This little guy really does a great job. The only reason I rate it a 4 is because the attachment brush that you pull out and lock in does not stay put on mine. I opt to use the bigger brush because of this reason. I have used all the attachments and find they all work extremely well. I have a puggle that sheds a lot so I use this vacuum on my couch a lot. Battery life is relatively short if you are using it non stop for 5-10 minutes, but that is usually enough for me. Emptying the filter canister is a breeze but you also have to remember to pull out the foam filter to clean periodically to regain the suction strength. Overall a great buy for the price.
